Without doubt, these women are making waves in Malaysia’s startup scene!

The startup scene is largely a male-dominated landscape. You have Edmund Lau, the founder of Quora, and Andrew Mason, the founder of Groupon, and the list goes on. You can’t deny, however, that there are a growing number of female entrepreneurs making waves in the highly competitive startup environment – even in Malaysia. In fact, statistics have shown that Kuala Lumpur is one of the top 10 cities in the world for women entrepreneurs! And you might just be surprised to know that some of these women are behind a few of your most-frequented apps and sites.

If you’re one to rely on Grab to get around the city (we know we do), you have Tan Hooi Ling to partly thank for that. While in Harvard Business School, Hooi Ling co-founded the app with classmate Anthony Tan – and the rest, as we know it, is history. And then there’s Vivy Yusof. LSE law graduate, mother, and business mogul, she founded the hugely successful multi-million dollar retail store Fashion Valet, which initially started in the online space before expanding with its brick-and-mortar stores in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.

Savvy, intelligent, and dynamic, these are just some of the names of Malaysia’s vibrant and exciting female startup and entrepreneurial scene. Browse through the gallery above and get acquainted with these absolutely fascinating business-savvy women!
