When fancy gadgets take over

Paramedics removed two children and their grandmother from a vehicle, in which the windows had wound up on a blistering hot day.

FANCY gadgets on new cars can sometimes get the better of unsuspecting motorists and this was certainly the case recently when two children and their grandmother were left at the mercy of electronics last week.

The driver of the vehicle had allegedly parked near Mason Street Clinic, left her passengers in the car and gone to do some quick shopping when the electronics kicked in and all three were trapped in the vehicle in the heat of the afternoon.

A ‘good Samaritan’ passing by noticed that the occupants of the vehicle were trapped inside, overheating, and subsequently smashed one of the windows to free them.

Paramedics arrived and removed the two children and their grandmother from the vehicle and did a thorough check on all three.

According to Chris Marais from JVS Towing and Recovery, who also stepped in to assist, the youngest of the two children was dangerously overheated and lethargic but his pulse quickly stabilised after some time spent in the coolness of the airconditioning of the JVS breakdown vehicle.

The vehicle was taken to the police station where it allegedly repeated it’s ‘Christine’-like performance (Stephen King), automatically closing the windows and locking the doors.
