We've already revealed a definitive list of the most talked about trends including the biggest home and interior design insights to the hottest updates in kitchens, flooring, gardens, outdoor living, luxury properties and even window dressings.

You can keep up with all the latest insights right here, where we've even unpicked the biggest trends and consumer habits from reports by Amazon, John Lewis and Pinterest, and kept up with the changing lifestyle concepts that continue to grip the UK: yes, out goes hygge, and in comes lagom.

But what now? Here, interior designer Kelly Hoppen has condensed it all, delivering her forecast for 2017 by focusing on the eight trends you should most definitely embrace if you're decorating your home this year - and reveals some design and styling tips along the way.

Having worked in the industry for 40 years, The Great Interior Design Challenge judge advises: 'Use trends as a guide rather than a rule as they can be very dating to an interior.'

Kelly, also known for her stint on BBC's Dragons' Den, says it's very important to create timeless and understated elegance in our homes. 'Times have changed and people want sustainable and modern luxury whilst holding on to classic pieces that will last the test of time,' she says. 'The recession has had a big impact on the way people are living their lives and their core values. It is that juxtaposition between the old and new that will play an important role in upcoming seasons.'

Read Kelly's trend forecast below:

1. Colours

Splashes of burgundy, dark grey, pastel pink, emerald green, and burnt orange will be the shades of next season.

2. Wall coverings

Wallpaper is and should be a wonderful luxurious piece of texture that draws you in but at the same time is a backdrop to whatever style you want in your home. We have seen an increase in patterned and textured wallpaper over the past year and interest will keep rising over the next season. 2017 will see lots of very bold and colourful prints as well as geometric shapes, splatters and messy patterns a la Jackson Pollock that will be used behind bookcases as well as walls. Retro tiles are also huge on walls.

3. Accessorising

Accessorising is fun and easy. Bringing nature into the home is absolutely key. I love organic trees that grow indoors to bring a little oxygen into the home and also some life! Retro plants, palm trees and rubber plants are huge, very 60s.

4. Art

Fantasy-like art is making a comeback. This can be found with artists like Tim walker, whose photographs have entranced the readers of Vogue for over a decade. Extravagant staging and romantic motifs characterise his unmistakable style.

5. Space

Open plan vs. intimate rooms is a debate that seems to keep coming up at the moment. Intimate rooms are returning to modern homes as people are looking for more private and defined living spaces. I still believe open plan is essential to the way we live. Using glass partitions that give intimacy and depth as seen here is huge for me.

6. Concrete

The industrial look in design has made a comeback, however, you may not live in an old converted warehouse! Using industrial materials such as concrete will automatically inject an urban feel to your home; it is versatile and looks incredible contrasted with beautiful metals and textures. Mix your concrete with antiques which will shock and contrast beautifully.

7. Flooring

2017 will see many different materials being used together such as retro tiles paired with wood, herringbone flooring matched with stunning ceramic tiles, and old wooden floors mixed with stone. Bespoke wood colour will also be a big hit. The wood flooring in my home in London is full of subtle warm tones and took six months to perfect - it was like going to the hairdresser and finding the perfect colour for me. There is also a huge push towards photographic tiles which look like imagery on tiles. This can be done on wood ceramic floors and marble ceramic floors with photographic imagery. Of course, underfloor heating will also always be a trend!

8. The old vs. the new

Giving the old new life and reinventing it will be huge in 2017. Overlaying both the old and the new particularly with fireplaces will be seen everywhere. Creating modern modular fireplaces with a twist of old mixed with metals will transform it, making it current and chic. My new collection with Chesney's, out in September 2017, will showcase this beautifully.
