'Acid' thrown at four people in series of attacks during broad daylight

FOUR people have been hurt and one person has been arrested following two separate 'acid' attacks in Canterbury City Centre.

Four people have been hurt after an acid attack in Canterbury

Emergency services have said that four people were attacked by the lethal chemical in two different location in Canterbury at around 4pm.

Kent Police have arrested a 17-year-old boy from London on suspicion of assault. 

Three people have been taken to hospital following the vicious attacks, but their injuries are not believed to be serious. 

Rich Airey, from South East Coast Ambulance service (SECAmb), said: "A call came in just after 4pm to St Peter's Place.

"We responded to a report of assault and a number of vehicles are at the scene and it is ongoing."

The authorities are carrying out a search near to the River Stour after a cordon was set up.

Kent Highways says the road is closed in both directions between St Dunstans and Rheims Way because of "a police incident".

Buses are being diverted around the roadblock.

Kent Police spokesman, James Walker, have said that all of the people involved in the fight invoving acid were known to each other. 

The police have also said that during the fight a substance was sprayed at a group of people in the Rheims Way and St Peter’s Place area.

Traffic is building up in the area due to the road closures. 

Today’s incident comes after a similar one yesterday, on Thursday at around 10:30pm when a man in his 20s was approached by another man who sprayed a clear, noxious locked into his face from a container.

Acid attacks have increased in the UK as criminals are turning to corrosive substances as a cheaper alternative to guns and knives.
