WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - UNCW men's basketball interim head coach Takayo Siddle has resigned and Monday will be his last day, university officials confirmed.

On Sunday, Athletic Director Jimmy Bass confirmed Siddle pulled his name from being considered for the head coach position.

Siddle was named interim head coach for the Seahawks after it was announced that Kevin Keatts was leaving UNCW to take the NC State head coaching job.

In an interview following Keatts' announcement, Siddle said that he was interested in being considered for the Seahawks head coach position.

Absolutely, anytime you're an assistant, I'm going on ten years, this is what you work for.  And this is a special place to me. I've helped rebuild it, I've recruited some good players in, I've helped develop some of these guys. This University is very dear to me, and being a North Carolina guy, this was always a place where I wanted to come play coming out of High school. But I didn't have an opportunity. So now I have an opportunity to be part of such a successful program now as a coach. It's very important to me. So absolutely I want it. I know what it takes to win here. Like I said, I've been a part of the rebuilding process, so excited. Excited about the opportunity.
