Teen struck and killed while trying to get on Onslow County school bus

ONSLOW COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Highway Patrol officials said a teenager was struck and killed at a school bus stop in Onslow County Monday morning.

WITN reports that the accident happened at 6:40 a.m.. in front of the teen's home on Dawson Cabin Road, south of Jacksonville.

Troopers said 16-year-old David Palacio, who attends Dixon High School, was struck when he crossed the road to get on the bus.

The school bus' stop arm was extended prior to the accident and the vehicle stopped after the crash, troopers said.

Staff Sgt. Joshua Black, who is stationed at Marine Air Corps Station New River, was driving the vehicle and has not been charged yet, WITN reports.

The school system said crisis counselors are at Dixon High School Monday morning to help students and faculty.
