Demand for independent inquiry after another death in custody in Fiji(Richard Ewart)

The NGO Coalition for Human Rights in Fiji is calling for an independent investigation into the death of an 18 year-old youth in police custody.

Vikarant Nand was arrested for breaching a Domestic Violence Restraining Order and died 48 hours later.

Police Commissioner, General Sitiveni Qiliho, has told the Fiji media he's instructed three department heads to ensure there is a prompt investigation.

But the Coalition's chair, Nalini Singh, says an independent inquiry is essential if all the facts are to established.
