30+ Classic Serif Fonts to Add to Your Collection

A traditional serif font has a small line at the end of each stroke, and it’s associated with print publications, like The New York Times. In fact, the serif typeface Baskerville was once declared the ‘typeface of truth.’

However, the serif font has evolved over time, and today, it dominates not only serious print publications, but playful online designs as well. In this list, we’re highlighting some of our favorite serif styles available with an Envato Elements subscription.

Addison is a typeface that brings together modern western styles with a rustic texture. Between Addison West, with thick block serifs, and Circus, a more decorative face, the two would bring an authentic and unique style to any artwork. The bold faces make a stand and standout for any design concept.

Inspired by vintage books and the pages within, Appareo is an imperfect, worn serif font that comes in three weights. Each weight has a varying degree of distress, from Black, in which the press and ink fully set into the page, to Medium, Light and Extralight, where the texture is heaviest. Each weight also has a custom italics version of each character.

Early sketches created an array of specialized ligatures from which the font really took shape. The family is comprised of regular, italic, inline and a rustic textured style. Baker Street delivers a multitude of Opentype features, primarily including hundreds of discretionary ligatures that connect letter pairs through varying flourishes.
