Sue Perkins has admitted that she may not watch The Great British Bake Off when it airs on Channel 4 because it would be "weird".

The presenter, who co-hosted the show with Mel Giedroyc when it ran on the BBC until 2016, also revealed that it does "sting" not doing the show anymore, after the pair declined to move with it to its new broadcaster.

Speaking of staying with the BBC after the controversial move, Perkins told the Daily Mail that "it was the right thing" to do.

"There was no hesitation. We both wish it all the best. Hand on heart, I don't know if I'd watch it, because that might be a bit weird, but that doesn't mean you don't want it to succeed in your absence."

Of doing the show since it began in 2010, Perkins described it as "a playground, enjoyed with fantastic bakers and mates".

"We had no script, we were given the latitude to just look after and hang out with the bakers in whatever way we saw fit," she added.

"It does sting sometimes that we're not doing it any more, and of course it's really sad, but we made our decision and we made it quickly, and together."

Giedroyc added that not moving "felt like the right thing to do" and said they had "amazing memories" from doing the show.

"When it started, Bake Off wasn't a big hit," Perkins continued. "Respect to the people who said, 'We'll keep commissioning this and give it a chance.'

"Who knows whether a Bake Off would ever be allowed to succeed in the current climate, because it didn't capture people's imagination for years."

Giedroyc added: "I don't think there will be any rancour or bitterness when it comes on, just a nostalgic twinge."

The Great British Bake Off is due to air on Channel 4 later this year.
