ProYo will debut a new line of low-fat ice creams, set up to challenge rapidly growing premium ice creams like Halo Top and Arctic Zero.
The frozen protein brand will launch the line at Natural Products Expo West. Available in seven different flavours in all, the ice creams will deliver 10g of protein in every serving (or 35g in each 14oz tub) along with just 120kcal and 2g of fat.
The full range of flavours consists of vanilla bean, coconut, dark chocolate toffee, mint chip, Dutch chocolate, blueberry-pomegranate and mocha.
All seven are free from artificial colours and stabilisers, and are non-GMO as well as being low-glycaemic. They provide an ‘awesome taste with balanced nutrition’, the brand said, and will help it to capitalise on increasing demand for premium and better-for-you ice creams.
According to Mintel data, the total ice cream and sherbet category has reached more than $12 billion and more than 20% of consumers are now purchasing premium, better-for-you brands. The demand has helped to create ‘a competitive sub-category’.
Furthermore, 34% of consumers say they are willing to pay more for premium ice cream than conventional offerings, resulting in many premium brands growing by double digits year on year.
But consumers are also sharing their dissatisfaction with ice creams that take a better-for-you positioning, but still contain unwanted, artificial ingredients or sweeteners – or, alternatively, an off-putting taste or texture.
