Dark Light

A free downloadable demo of Oceanhorn is now available on Xbox One.

If you’ve been tempted by Cornfox & Bros’ Zelda-inspired adventure game you can now download a free demo from Xbox One Games Store.

Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Sea was originally released on mobile platforms in 2013, eventually coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 at the end of last year. The game has now sold over one million copies across all formats and was recently confirmed for release on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation Vita later in 2017.

The game’s list of features makes for familiar reading. Ocean exploration, check. Ancient treasures, check. Monster combat and puzzles, check.

Remind you of anything?

Although Oceanhorn won’t win any points for originality – you’ll find elements of everything from Wind Waker, to Final Fantasy in here – it’s a very smart and enjoyable 3D action adventure with an appealing art-style and some beautiful music from noted game composers, Nobuo Uematsu and Kenji Ito.

We don’t usually mention demo releases here on Thumbsticks, but at a time when they are an increasing rarity, a chance to sample a flawed gem shouldn’t be passed by.

Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Sea is currently available on iOS, Android, Apple TV, PC, Mac, PlayStation 4 and Xbox.
