2017: Year of the Cloud Data Warehouse

Happy 2017!

I'm calling it - this year, 2017, will be the year we see an explosion in project to migrate our old on-premises data warehouses to the cloud.

And for sure you will see new, greenfield data warehouse projects evaluating and selecting new data warehouse platforms in the cloud, instead of the traditional players.

A recent TDWI Best Practices report cited 58% of respondents said that modernization was extremely important to the success of their data warehouse and analytics programs.

So, why would they bother to start anywhere else but in the cloud?

It is where data warehousing is going. Period.

As with all new tech, there is a ton of hype and a variety of offerings out there. But let's be clear - not all cloud data warehouse offerings are created equal. Buyer beware. You still have to do your due diligence in selecting a solution to find the one that is right for your business needs and analytic workloads.
