Earlier this year, we asked nine wedding planners what they thought 2017’s top wedding trends would be. And while the responses varied, there was a remarkable amount of overlap when it came to flowers and color palette. In recent years, all-white weddings, from bridesmaid dresses to bouquets, have dominated. But event planners such as Colin Cowie and Virginia Edelson predicted not only a return to colorful weddings with bright floral elements, but also an emphasis on greenery. Greenery, many participants noted, was after all named the Pantone color of the year.

Today, Beyoncé may have solidified these two burgeoning trends. The superstar announced her pregnancy on Instagram by posting a picture of herself swathed in a pale green veil. The image, which Beyoncé captioned with the news that she and husband, Jay Z, are expecting twins, was overtly matrimonial. Beyoncé is seen kneeling below a multi-colored flower archway, clad only in her underwear and in the aforementioned veil. But it’s the flower archway and the veil that particularly invoke bridal themes, and the choice of bright flowers and green won't go unnoticed.

There are, of course, other wedding trends that Beyonce’s photograph could spark. Perhaps this bolder style of portrait photography, which is often ignored in favor of a more vérité approach, will make a comeback. Also of note: The flowers that make up the archway in Beyoncé’s photograph look as if they are possibly fake. Fake flowers are often derided as tacky, but today there are many artists making beautiful examples out of silk and crepe paper. Livia Cetti sells wares from her company The Green Vase at John Derian in New York, while Anandamayi Arnold has long been making waves in the Bay Area’s artisanal shops. Brides have yet to incorporate fake flowers en masse into their wedding plans, but after Beyoncé’s latest Instagram—we’d say it’s more than possible.
