We hate clichés. They're the opposite of creativity. They're a refusal to apply thinking to a problem. Welcome to this week's cliché-free email.

Top of the week to you <<First Name>>! I hope your Valentine's Day was filled with love and happiness. Today is my anniversary, so it's not over for me yet! I'm trying to get this email finished before I head out for a romantic brunch with my wonderful wife. Funnily enough, this week on Open for Ideas we mainly focused on things we don't love: clichés. But we also talked about the importance of hiring people who love what they do. So that kinda balances out. Have a look and see if you missed anything this week. Big love to you and your beautiful brain, Dave x

A well-deserved kick in the symbolics

Last week Aran Rees went off on one about clichés. And quite rightly. He particularly took the lightbulb cliché to task. This lazy symbol is the opposite of creativity. Run from it and anyone who uses it!

And while we’re smashing up those fricken’ lightbulbs

I'm with Aran on hating clichés. In fact, I wrote and directed a dozen short films about the very subject last year. I share one of the shows here and have my very own rant.

Great employees are curious and explore things in their own time

Our Silicon Beach interviews continue with a chat with Robert Belgrave, the founder of Wirehive. We talk about the creativity of leadership in an ever-changing industry.

The 4-step Remix Method for getting ideas

After last week's post about Kirby Ferguson's TED talk, we decided to share some more of his wisdom. This time it's a lovely short film where he describes a simple process for getting ideas. There's a lot of wisdom in what he says. Listen up!
If you're London-based, don't miss out on Silicon Beached in March. You'll find a stack of brilliant and inspiring speakers. And tickets are available now. Click on the image below to grab yours before they're all gone!
