Oregon Drops Arizona 79-65

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Oregon Ducks (15-8, 5-6 Pac-12) defeated the Arizona Wildcats (11-11, 2-9 Pac-12) on Friday night in McKale Center by a score of 79-65.

"I think the tough thing about this year and this season is we've had chances," head coach Adia Barnes said. "We'll play one quarter, we'll dig ourselves a hole, and then we're able to rally back, but it's just kind of too little too late. We did have open looks, but the shots just weren't falling."

Dejza James was Arizona's most effective weapon off the bench as she scored a career-high 18 points on 73% shooting and grabbed eight rebounds as well. That is her fifth double-digit scoring effort of the season.

"I really wished we could have pulled that one out," James said. I don't think we played horrible tonight, we just had a lot of shots that didn't fall. We really wanted to come out and give it our all but we couldn't get the win."

Breanna Workman also caused some problems for Oregon as she scored 14 points and had 10 boards as well, good for her second double-double of the season and her career. She filled up the stat sheet in the first half as she had eight points, five rebounds and three assists in the first 20 minutes. This is Workman's first double-figure scoring effort since Jan. 15.

"I love her aggressiveness right now," Barnes said. "She's great to coach and she has a really high basketball IQ. She understands the game, she understands the angles and she's one of the best talkers on the floor. I think she kind of had a quiet 14 to me, but she really asserted herself well on the block."

Arizona had a tough time scoring on Oregon as they shot 39% from the field on the night. On top of that, the Ducks shot well from downtown as they made eight three-pointers on the night. Additionally, Oregon outscored Arizona 19-12 on points off of turnovers.

Oregon got out to a 20-10 start in the first quarter as they shot 47% from the field as opposed to Arizona's 31% shooting. The Ducks followed that up with an 18-15 quarter, which gave them a 38-25 lead going into halftime. Oregon forced 11 Arizona turnovers in the first 20 minutes.

The Ducks forced the Wildcats to 35% shooting in the third quarter as they outscored Arizona 16-13 in the third quarter to take a 54-38 lead into the fourth. The Wildcats scored 27 points in the fourth quarter to finish it out, but Oregon did well to score 25 of their own to hold onto the lead.

Arizona is set to face the 11th-ranked Oregon State Beavers on Sunday with tipoff scheduled for 2 p.m. MST.
