WARWICK, R.I. -- A utility pole, suspended across the roadway by wires after being sheared off by a car that hydroplaned into it, has closed Jefferson Boulevard in the 1200s block Tuesday morning, according to police Lt. Earl Read.

The road remained closed as of 8:10 a.m. Tuesday.

Read said that a Warwick man leaving work at about 4 a.m. lost control of his car and struck the pole. The man, whom Read declined to identify, was not injured in the accident and was the only person in the car. No charges have been filed, Read said.
