UPDATE: The New England Patriots came from a 25-point deficit to win Super Bowl LI 34-28 over the Atlanta Falcons, in the first Super Bowl in history to go into overtime.

See the second half recap below:

The Falcons extended their lead over the Patriots by another seven points as quarterback Matt Ryan threw to running back Tevin Coleman for a touchdown, making the score 28-3 with eight and a half minutes to go in the third quarter.

The Patriots scored their first touchdown of the game shortly afterwards, only to see Stephen Gostkowski, a leading kicker in the league, miss the extra point to bring the score to 28-9 with about two minutes remaining in the second half. Gostkowski later notched a field goal to bring the score to 28-12 in the fourth quarter.

The Patriots then scored a third TD and managed a successful two-point conversion to bring the score to a more competitive 28-20.

A second TD and two-point from the Patriots brought the score to 28-28 with less than a minute to go.

The underdog Atlanta Falcons dominated the first half of Super Bowl LI against the New England Patriots, taking a 21-3 lead going into halftime.

The Falcons shut down the Patriots on the first drive of the game, but neither team managed to score until the second quarter.

The Falcons were first to put points on the board as running back Devonta Freeman scored a touchdown two and a half minutes into the second quarter, before quickly racking up two more touchdowns to take a 21-0 lead.

The Patriots closed out the first half with a field goal from kicker Matt Bryant to leave the score 21-3 going into the half.

Falcons cornerback Robert Alford had one of the biggest plays of the game as he intercepted a pass from Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and ran in back for an 82-yard touchdown. The play was the first pick-six of Brady's career during a postseason game.

Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan's pass to tight end Austin Hooper was the other TD of the first half.

Many pundits remarked that Brady, who has four Super Bowl rings already and is seeking a fifth, did not play at his usual level during the first half.

The Falcons went into the game as slight underdogs, but had a 94 percent chance of winning, according to ESPN's "win probability" as the second half began. ESPN reporter Vaughn McClure noted that the Falcons are 12-1 for the season when they led at the end of the first half.
