My Students

My classroom is a hands-on learning environment where students work together to reach a common goal. My classes are fully inclusive. I often have 1/4 of my students receiving special services provided by our special needs teachers, therapists or ESL teacher. My inclusive setting helps everyone grow.

Students with disabilities are, like every child at our school, valued for their individuality and uniqueness.

Inclusive educational opportunities are maximized. All of our students are eager to have new experiences and work very well together to utilize the strengths of each and every child in their groups. As a teacher, my main goal is to develop a lifelong love of learning in all of my students while promoting good character and self-confidence in each and every child.

My Project

Makey Makeys allow any object to become an input device for computers and other programmable equipment. I'm requesting Makey Makey - An invention Kit for Everyone. These will greatly increase interest from all of my students in programming and controlling our various robotic kits by adding a new level of creativity.

It will also allow students will physical limitations to be able to control programs and devices with whatever manipulative will fit their needs best.

If a student can only move their feet then their project team can use larger items such as shoe boxes or flat playground balls connected to the Makey Makey so that everyone can participate. If a student can only move their head then their project team can create connectors that are held next to the child's head so they can input commands. Children who are wheelchair bound can have their wheelchair connected to a computer so they can use a touch to a handle or wheel as a controller. It truly opens doors for the General Ed students to think about and solve accessibility issues for others.
