Special Education 101 is a helpful road map for understanding how public schools can effectively serve the needs of students with special needs. The course is beneficial for parents and professionals and illustrates how to:
- effectively refer a child for special education services
- create individual education plans to serve a child's unique learning needs
- ensure a child is served in the least restrictive environment experiencing the same opportunities for learning and growing that all students should have access to
- understand the local, state and federal laws governing public school, special education procedures. Child and parent rights are fully explained.
Participants receive a flash drive with:
- PowerPoint Training Handouts
- The Resource Guide for Children with Special Needs
- IDEA, The Manual for Parents and Students about Special Education Services in Texas, 2012 (an 84 page, Special Education Manual)
- Example letters/forms to use for requesting evaluations, records, services
