Preschool Songs

27 January 2016

I do not know a preschool student that doesn’t like music. There are literally preschool songs for everything! There are preschool songs for the days of the week, math, science, social studies, weather, words, the alphabet, even washing hands!

An easy way to teach preschool songs, is to start out with a “repeat after me” style where the teacher would sing a short line and the students would copy the teacher. For example, the teacher says, “Repeat after me!” and the students would reply, “Repeat after me!” Teacher continues, “There was a great big moose!” Students mimick, “There was a great big moose!” The teacher continues, ”Who liked to drink a lot of juice!” and students repeat, “Who liked to drink a lot of juice!”

The moose song is one of my favorite preschool songs of all times and it is actually always sung as a repeating song. You can make up silly moves and make it a physically active song. The lyrics of this song are:

There was a great big moose,
Who liked to drink a lot of juice.
There was a great big moose,
Who liked to drink a lot of juice.

(Chorus)
Singing oh way oh,
Way oh way oh way oh way oh.
Waaaay oh way oh,
Way oh way oh way oh way oh.

His name was Fred,
He liked to drink his juice in bed.
His name was Fred,
He liked to drink his juice in bed.

(Chorus)
Singing oh way oh,
Way oh way oh way oh way oh.
Waaaay oh way oh,
Way oh way oh way oh way oh.

He drank his juice with care,
But then he spilled it in his hair.
He drank his juice with care,
But then he spilled it in his hair.

(Chorus)
Singing oh way oh,
Way oh way oh way oh way oh.
Waaaay oh way oh,
Way oh way oh way oh way oh.

Now there’s a sticky moose,
Full of juice,
On the loooooooooooooose…….

You can see some hand motions and hear the melody here:

One of my favorite days of the week songs that I have come across is Days of the Week, sung to the tune of the Addams Family theme song. It goes like this:

Days of the week (snapsnap),
Days of the week (snapsnap),
Days of the week, days of the week, days of the week (snapsnap).
There’s Sunday and there’s Monday, there’s Tuesday and there’s Wednesday,
There’s Thursday and there’s Friday, and then there’s Saturday.
Days of the week (snapsnap),
Days of the week (snapsnap),
Days of the week, days of the week, days of the week (snapsnap).

There are thousands of preschool songs and resources just a click away on the internet! You can find educationally themed ones or just fun and silly ones. Good luck!
