Celebrity Big Brother viewers hit out at the Channel 5 reality show last night, following problems with the app when fans went to cast their votes to save both James Jordan and Jedward.

James Jordan was the fourth star to be evicted from the Celebrity Big Brother house on Tuesday evening (January 17) after being pitted against Jedward and James Cosmo in a shocking live twist – but viewers were soon claiming that they were unable to save the Strictly star.

For the short time voting was open, Big Brother acknowledged there was a technical problem updating the app and issued a statement on social media, saying: "We're aware that some of you are having problems updating the iOS app.

"We're working on it and will let you know when a fix is ready."

Taking to Twitter, one fan of the former Strictly professional dancer wrote: "It's a fix for Jedward. You totally rigged that vote to get James J out to help push them along."

Another viewer added: "@bbuk trying to vote for Jedward problem with lines?"

However, viewers cannot vote through the app itself, and are instead directed to the telephone numbers needed to vote when they use the app.

Digital Spy contacted a Channel 5 rep, who said: "There were no voting issues that we were aware of.

"The app is not used as a means to vote and we do not use texts for voting."

Speaking to Digital Spy after leaving the house, James J also took aim at Celebrity Big Brother, accusing the show of deliberately riling up housemates before tense moments (like nominations or tasks).

"I think that's the clever thing with Big Brother – you get bored out of your mind during the day and then all of a sudden you've got to do a task, and you're already on edge because you're bored," he explained.

"And then they have you waiting around in a hot room, and you're getting annoyed, and they're taking their time getting to do things, and when it comes to nominations you just blurt it out because you wanna get out the room. It's so clever, the psychology behind it… I can't explain it."

Celebrity Big Brother continues tonight (January 18) at 9pm on Channel 5.
