Caring for Marriage

I Can Think About It

Ben is a fan of juice. He is a G rated bartender, mixing apple, grape, blueberry and pink lemonade. Add to that his penchant for stemware and you have an image of the coffee table beside his chair. He often writes the flavors he has a hankering for on our ongoing shopping list, just to keep ahead of the game.

But today he mentioned a back up plan that caught my respect.

"If we run out of my favorite juice, I can still think about it."

For someone who has trouble with escalating emotions, this is noteworthy. Being able to deal with a loss by remembering good times keeps us from spiraling downward.

Most of us have to stomp through loss. Friends who move out of state, family that dies, homes we no longer call our own, physical vibrancy sometimes slip away. They don't always stay, even if we ask them to. Beg them to.

But Benjamin is right.  I can still think about them.

Love,

Lori
