Long answer

Bananas are very important part of a healthy diet. They contain fiber, potassium, magnesium, and are fairly low in calories. The simple carbohydrates contained within a banana are essential for providing sustained energy throughout the day.

Bananas contain high levels of magnesium and potassium, two nutrients that also help provide energy, as well as enhance metabolism. Potassium, specifically, can enhance muscle strength, water balance, electrolytic functions, and the nervous system. They also have a chemical that helps control stomach pains and reduces the risk of diarrhea or constipation. With 25% DV of vitamin B6, bananas are important for controlling various enzyme reactions and is also involved in brain development for infants. More benefits from consuming bananas include improved digestion, protection from cramps, protection from swelling, reduced risk of diabetes, and they can even help fight depression.

When consumed in large quantities, bananas are likely to cause weight gain due to calories. Too much potassium, on the other hand, is harmful to people whose kidneys are not fully functional. Lastly, the sugar found in bananas may cause tooth decay, however, this is rare and is usually associated with overconsuming bananas over a prolonged period of time.
