1.)Where was the first place that you traveled that made you think WOW—travel is amazing (think history book come to life or …..)

When I was 10 years old my mom, my sister and I took a summer trip to Spain and North Africa. We flew into Madrid and traveled around Spain with the final goal of reaching Malaga to take the ferry across the Strait of Gibraltar to Morocco where we met my great aunt and uncle who were circling the globe on their 32-foot sailboat. We joined them and sailed from North Africa and along the coast of Spain.

A few years later I took a two week road trip with my grandparents from Southern California to Baja Caifornia. We drove to Cabo San Lucas and then back to La Paz where we took the ferry to mainland Mexico and headed back to California. There were no reservations, we drove until we wanted to stop—mostly in fishing villages where we’d share in the catch of the day. It was immersive and we were able to really connect with the locals and culture. They truly taught me what a road trip is meant to be.

These two trips hold the biggest place in my heart and my and are the ones that confirmed in me a true love and passion for exploration and travel.

2.)If you had unlimited resources, where would you go and what would you do?

I would go everywhere on my travel ‘to do’ list. Honestly, if I had unlimited funds, I would be planning trips and traveling as much as possible with my husband and son. First on the list would be Alaska.

3.)What were you afraid to do and how did you find the courage to overcome it?

I was afraid to do a glider ride in Oahu. I was on a solo press trip and it was scheduled as part of my itinerary. Our plane (without an engine) was towed into the air, the cord releases and then we soared around Oahu for about an hour. I found the courage to get into the plane because I needed to write about it. I have done MANY things I wouldn’t normally sign up to do because I was on a media trip.

4.)What apps do you use regularly that make your life easier?

Tripit, Tailwind, anything to do with Instagram such as Dropbox, Over, Snapseed, etc.

5.)What place do you wish more people have seen?

Mexico and Turkey.

6.)Best advice you have been given and by whom?

I’ll go with best advice for my business. It was from Lewis Howes. I was at a mastermind in the Philippines and I had a chance to chat with Lewis about my brand new blog for Break Into Travel Writing. I was trying to determine revenue goals. Lewis asked me one question, which was “what products or services do you sell and for how much?”. He then, said, simply determine the amount of money you want to make each month and divide that by the cost of your product”. It’s so simple, but was an eye opening moment for me.

7.)When were you surprised by the kindness of strangers on a trip?

I’m constantly surprised by the kindness of people while I travel. I think as an overall theme, I enjoy travel because of the amazing people I meet.

8.)What inspired you to travel for extended periods of time or live in a new country?

The first big trip I did was after college. I went to Europe for 6 months with a friend. I worked in a youth hostel as a bartender and did odd jobs to extend the trip. When I finally ran out of money, I came home, saved up and went back for 3 more months. I was inspired purely by the idea and excitement of travel itself.
