Lionsgate has signed a deal with Participant Media for the international rights to Participant’s upcoming feature and documentary slate.
The deal involving Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chairman Patrick Wachsberger and Participant Media CEO David Linde will cover Participant films in all territories beyond North America, and also will include available non-output territories for films that fall under Participant’s deal with Amblin Partners.
The partnership will start with Lionsgate bringing two Participant titles, José Padilha’s Entebbe and Rupert Wyatt’s sci-fi thriller Captive State, to buyers next month at the European Film Market in Berlin. Participant plans to supply Lionsgate with up to five movies each year, including documentaries.
“We’re delighted to expand our collaboration with Jeff Skoll, David Linde and the entire Participant Media team,” Lionsgate’s Wachsberger and international COO Andrew Kramer said Tuesday in a joint statement.
The deal was negotiated by Gabriel Brakin, general counsel and executive vp business affairs for Participant Media, with Linde and Jonathan King, executive vp narrative films. Kramer negotiated on behalf of Lionsgate International.
