CNNMoney's 2017 Best Jobs In America Highlight Tech's Most Marketable Skills

These and many other useful insights for high tech professionals looking to advance their careers and incomes are from CNNMoney’s 100 Best Jobs In America published this week. 2017 will favor job seekers who have marketable tech skills that are in demand, creating new opportunities to advance their career and incomes.  CNN Money concludes that based on their analysis, the job market today is the strongest it has been in ten years. CNNMoney collaborated with PayScale.com to complete the study, taking into account a diverse range of factors including job satisfaction, the median pay of experienced workers based on PayScale.com’s database of 54 million profiles, and the size of each employment field today and in the future.  Additional details on the methodology can be found here. Key insights from CNNMoney’s study for tech professionals include the following:

  • 36 of CNNMoney’s Best Jobs In America are technology related, ranging from analytics, biostatistics, mobile app development, IT security, user experience (UX) design and tech implementation expertise. Average median pay across the 36 tech jobs is $90,425 and IT Security Directors have the highest median pay of $147K according to the study.
  • Seven of best tech jobs in 2017 have a median pay over $100,000 this year. IT Security Directors ($147K), Information Technology Director ($128K), Accounting & Financial Reporting Director ($126K), Engagement Manager ($115K), Financial Services Product Manager ($113K), Analytics Manager ($108), User Experience Researcher ($106K) and Product Owner (Product Manager) ($103K) all have a median pay level over six figures. Product Managers with five years of cloud computing expertise are in high demand and can easily surpass the median $103K salary level in major metro areas.   • Tech jobs growing the fastest in the next ten years include Statisticians (34%), Analytics Managers (30%), Front End Developer/Engineer (27%), User Interface Designer (27%) and Webmaster (27%). Additional high-growth tech positions include IT Business Analysts, Programmer Analysts, and Clinical Applications Specialists each predicted to have 21% more jobs in their respective fields in the next ten years. Demand for Mobile Application Developers, User Experience Researchers, Content Strategists, Applications Engineers and Product Analysts is expected to grow 19% in the next ten years.
