I hope you had a fabulous Christmas! I for one have eaten FAR to much & so the diet & exercise regime is already underway, New Year, new start (such a cliche I know!). It’s that time of year when we’re all feeling reflective & thinking ahead to 2017 and beyond planning our adventures & goals for the year. For those of you getting married in 2017, congratulations!! Coming from a bride who got married herself last year you have the most exciting times ahead & all I can say is enjoy every single minute of it! I thought now is the perfect time to share with you what is going to be hot this year in the world of weddings with the 2017 wedding flower & decor trends.

Greenery

For those of you who don’t already know, the Pantone colour of the year for 2017 has been announced as greenery & I for one could not be happier as it means that foliage is still going to be a key trend for weddings this year. For those of you not yet convinced by this love of all things green, hear me out… foliage is just so versatile when it comes to the styling and decor for your big day from creating focal entrance points for your ceremony, arches, garlands for the table centre pieces to hanging installations there are just soooo many possibilities. If your keen to incorporate some florals and pops of colour into your scheme then opt for foliage heavy arrangements with hints of flowers that compliment your scheme, that way you get the best of both worlds.

Hygge

Recently we have been seeing an appreciation for all things Danish within the media that has been influencing lifestyle and interior trends which is also having an effect on wedding day decor. Think pared back, natural and relaxed. Hygge is appreciating and taking pleasure in the simplest every day moments creating moments which are more beautiful & meaningful, a sentiment that is just perfect for wedding nuptials and celebrations (in my humble opinion!). It’s not just about rustic barns & fairly lights (although these are indeed dreamy settings there is no denying) it’s about Danish minimalism, think natural style arrangements and soft candlelight to warm your guests. A style that consists of heavy greenery, branches & natural elements with no bold colours but instead more muted neutral tones.

Organic Styling

Vintage is out for 2017 wedding flower and decor trends replaced with organic styling, what we have been calling ‘fine art’ during 2016 if you have heard that previous terminology. Simple understated elegant styling with with the florals unstructured and effortlessly stunning. Tables are bare and rustic with long banquet style tables being preferred to round. This look is inspired by the backdrop of Tuscany and how naturally stunning it is. Hand died silk ribbons left long and trailing from bridal bouquets are still a key trend for weddings and now this is set to influence wedding day decor. Hand dyed silk table runners are set to be popular for adding that elegant yet organic feel to your reception tables, paired with candles for a truly Tuscan feast inspired feel to your big day. Calligraphy is a trend that is still going strong for 2017 particularly for wedding day stationary and place name settings and if you fancy learning this technique yourself why not sign up to a calligraphy workshop? Blush Florals

Romantic blush tones are very much here to stay for 2017 & I can totally understand why, soft blush colour combos are just so darn pretty! Particularly when incorporating blousy blooms such as garden roses & peonies into your schemes. Blush also compliments really well with both gold or silver metallic if you were thinking of adding a splash of metallic to your big day decor. A few examples of floral varieties that are available in blush include; Astilbe, Garden roses (David Austin Kiera is a particular favourite) Peonies, Dahlias (the wizard of Oz variety in particular) quick sand roses are gorgeous if you’re looking for a more subtle slightly beige shade of blush.

Hanging Flower Installations

Hanging florals are still set to be big for 2017 wedding flower and decor trends and work particularly well within marquee and tipi style reception venues. Having said that it of course entirely depends on what your venue is like. Hanging installations are great for creating a focal area such as above your dance floor or top table and add a real wow factor to your big day blooms. If budget would allow I would suggest investing in one main installation rather then more smaller arrangements as these have more impact and will be a talking point for your guests throughout the day. There are a number of different options in terms of design too, you could opt for a hanging chandelier (these work particularly well in a marquee) or plank style arrangement (which work well with long banquet style tables) a hanging ‘meadow garden’, floral curtain, or hanging hoops (a good option for creating a focal back drop behind the top table).

If your venue doesn’t have any obvious places that allow you to attach/have a hanging installation then you may need to think of other options that might be possible. Last year we flowered two lots of bar lights & this created a unique focal area above the bar that people probably weren’t expecting as it’s not an obvious place you would expect to see flowers!

Asymmetrical flowers

This year wild, untamed, non symmetrical designs are going to be big among florals. This style is inspired by the old ‘dutch master paintings’ where the design reflects the fluidity and movement of each individual flower as opposed to tight compact arrangements. Think oversized bouquets and big statement urns made up of an abundance of foliage arranged as if growing wildly and the flowers placed as if they have a life of their own!

Neutral flower tones

In keeping with the trend for all things natural and organic this is also running through to the floral colour schemes for weddings. Instead of the bold bright popping colours that have been popular in the last couple of years, brides and couples are opting for more neutral and ethereal schemes such as classic whites & greens, nudes, creams, minks and beige’s.

Lighting

Lighting has been gathering momentum over the last couple of years as part of wedding day decor and now it is probably one of the key elements to creating the ambience for both the ceremony and reception. Hurricane candles grouped together create a simple yet beautiful display particularly at winter weddings and candle sticks with tea lights are a lovely addition to the centre pieces on the tables. You could opt to have coloured candles too in shades that compliment your wedding scheme rather then just cream. Hanging fairly lights create a romantic and atmospheric vibe and look stunning in both rustic and industrial style venues and marquees. Festoon lights are also another great option for your dance floor/party area as these are a bit more fun and quirky as opposed to romantic.
