    UPDATED: Waterford man critically injured in one-car crash

    Waterford — A Waterford man was in critical condition Friday after his car struck a tree Thursday night on Douglas Lane in Waterford, according to a police department news release.

    The driver, Timothy Schoennagel, 30, of Waterford was trapped in the car after the 10:10 p.m. accident, extricated by the Cohanzie Fire Service and flown by LifeStar helicopter to Hartford Hospital. The passenger in the car, Eliza P. Desantis, 26, of Niantic was found outside the car with no apparent injury, but taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital as a precaution, police said.

    The collision occurred around the area of 61 Douglas Lane and the car was found partially off the road. The Waterford Police Accident Investigation team is investigating.
