The Brisbane Lions are thrilled to announce Sam Skinner will make his long-awaited debut after being named in the team’s 18 this morning.

Skinner comes in for Daniel McStay who has not recovered from a shoulder complaint suffered in the Lions’ win over Carlton last weekend.

It was exactly this time last year the 20-year-old was to debut in Round 19, before he ruptured his ACL at the end of training and was robbed of the opportunity.

Skinner showed strong character and persistence by returning to competitive football within 11 months.

Since then, the defender has played seven NEAFL matches and kicked two goals in the side’s recent win over Redland.

He’s known amongst the group for his big heart, competitive nature and professionalism.

Rohan Bewick has been added to the Lions 25-man squad, with the final squad to be named at 5pm today.
