Instagram helps make Japan's '100-yen style' all the rage

OSAKA -- At best they were seen as a place to pick up necessities when on a very tight budget, at worst, little more than emporiums of cheap tat. Now, however, Japan's 100-yen store, are experiencing something of a boom among people looking for a touch of style without breaking the bank.

The Japanese equivalent of the dollar store is now somewhere people go not just intent on being frugal, but increasingly in search of bits and pieces to spruce up Instagram or Facebook photos.
