Gallery: Did Nissan use an Infiniti G35 as a GT-R mule?
This Infiniti G35 sure looks like it has all the important pieces from a Nissan GT-R under its skin.

The Nissan GT-R made its North American debut in 2007. Obviously, before the car’s launch, Nissan had to figure out a way to put Godzilla through its paces without showing off the radically redesigned body. The logical solution? Look at the then-current production lineup and find something close enough to stuff the new powertrain in.

Judging by these pictures, Nissan opted to slide the twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 and all-wheel drive system from the future GT-R beneath Infiniti’s G35 coupe. If you’re wondering why Nissan went to its more upmarket Z-car sibling, it was likely to further remove the R35 GT-R from snooping Nissan diehards. Had Nissan used its 350Z, it would have raised questions about an extremely beefed-up version of a Nissan or an obvious test mule. It is funny to see the bulges of the GT-R stuffed under the shell of something besides Shiro Nakamura’s design.
