The Niantic Light Parade is a beacon of entertainment

You never know what illuminated, oh-so-clever creations you'll see at the Niantic Light Parade. It could be an elaborately decorated float inspired by a movie or a fairy tale. It could be a marching band or a team of dancers bedecked in gleaming lights. It could be antique cars wrapped in multi-colored bulbs.

Whatever it is, you'll have vibrant visuals to enjoy when this year's procession, which is the 28th annual one, travels down Main Street and Pennsylvania Avenue in downtown Niantic on Saturday.

And, shhhh, don't tell anyone, but Santa and Mrs. Claus just might be riding in the parade.

In addition to local restaurants that will be open during the event, food trucks will be gathered at various locations — on Methodist Street, at the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and Main Street, and at Frosty Treat on Columbus Avenue.

Niantic Light Parade, 6 p.m. Saturday, Main Street starting at Columbus/Haigh avenues, ends on Pennsylvania Avenue; rain date 5 p.m. Sunday; (860) 739-5828.
