WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – We did see some snow earlier this week but for most of this fall temperatures have been above normal with highs in the 40s and 50s recently but that’s all about to change.

Arctic air is moving down out of Canada. We’ll be on the edge of the coldest air it but it will be considerably colder as we head into the end of the week and this weekend with high temperatures only in the low to mid 30s.

And now that it’s going to be getting colder the demand for things like wood pellets is on the rise.

“It’s pretty good demand right now because we’re getting a little colder and so forth a lot of people don’t realize wood pellets are a season year round people buy wood pellets in April in June and July. But it’s not until it really starts getting cold that people gets cold that people start thinking about it and storing them in the cellar or whatever it might be,” said Bob Williams the owner of Westfield Feed.

“Well we’re here getting our pellets for our pellet stove because we don’t want to run out because we heard it’s going to get really cold over the next couple of days,” said Andrea Weidhaas of Russell.

There a number of different kinds of wood pellets available. In addition some people are choosing to heat with coal.

There are signs that more arctic air and some snow could be on the way next week.
