Three Malaysian universities made it to the top 100 list out of the 300 universities, involving 50 countries, of the Times Higher Education (THE) BRICS and Emerging Economies University Rankings 2017.

According to THE website, Universiti Putra Malaysia came at the 89th place, a climb of 14 places from its previous ranking, while the other two Malaysian universities that made it to the top 100 ranking are Universiti Teknologi Petronas (91) and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (100).

Meanwhile, making it to the top 300, are Universiti Sains Malaysia at 114th place and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia at 136th place while Universiti Utara Malaysia made it within the 201-250 band and Universiti Teknologi MARA, made it to the 251-300 band.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh on Twitter congratulated the universities saying: "Congrats to our universities for achieving this. Keep it up, the hard work doesn't end here - go for Top 100 and beyond. #SoaringUpwards."

Some 50 countries were listed in the BRICS 2017 ranking including China, Brazil, Russia, India and South Africa. - Bernama
