Britain's least used train stations have been revealed and there's no better place to avoid rush hour than at these lovely rural locations.

Data from the Office for Rail and Road shows that just 12 passengers boarded or exited a train at Shippea Hill station in East Cambridgeshire throughout 2015/16, The Telegraph reports. The surprising statistic translates to just one person per month and, in even more remarkable news, the visitors to this station have actually declined! There was a grand total of 22 passengers during the previous year.

Shippea Hill station might be extraordinarily quiet, but it's not the only one in the country. Eight other rail stations had fewer than 100 people board or disembark a train throughout the same period from April 2015 to March 2016. Reddish South station in Greater Manchester had just 38 passengers and South Gloucestershire's Pilning saw 46 passengers come to its station in 2015/16.

A crowded London Waterloo station.

Coombe in Cornwall was ranked the fourth quietest, with 48 total exits or entries, and Barry Links in Angus, Scotland came in fifth place.

However, commuters in London are likely to be wishing for a similar level of calm after a year of facing the exact opposite.

Waterloo station was named the busiest in the country, with 99.1 million passengers travelling through it in 2016/16. Victoria station was close behind in second place, with 81.2 million visitors.

We know where we'd rather attempt to board a train at 'peak' time!
