It’s time for Vol. 2.
The first trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 shows the unlikely band of heroes in action — but doesn’t reveal much in the way of spoilers. Earlier this week, director James Gunn chatted with Heat Vision about his philosophy for the trailer, noting he and the Marvel team carefully considered how much to show.
“With Guardians, [fans] really go through every single little shot and try to figure out what the movie’s about. And there’s a lot of mysteries in Guardians 2,” he said.
The team is already hard at work on the next Guardians 2 trailer.
“We were talking about how much to give away — and we’re not going to give away very much,” said Gunn.
This is technically the first official trailer for the film, though Gunn unveiled a nearly 90-second sneak peek in October.
While the first teaser for the original Guardians made use of Blue Swede’s “Hooked on a Feeling,” this Guardians 2 teaser uses “Fox On The Run” by The Sweet. Both songs were released in the U.S. 1974 (though “Hooked on a Feeling” was released abroad a year earlier). “Fox on the Run” is the first hint of what’s in store for the Awesome Mix Vol. 2, which will provide the soundtrack for the film.
Once again, the Guardians of the Galaxy team includes Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and Baby Groot (Vin Diesel). The film also stars Michael Rooker, Sean Gunn and Kurt Russell as Star-Lord’s father Ego.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters May 5, 2017.
