The other side of the state saw the defending Class 4A state champions, Gonzaga Prep, fail to make it out of the qualifying round of the state playoffs Friday night.

West of the cascades saw KingCo go an undefeated 3-0 in its Friday night qualifying games, while the NPSL went 0-4.

In 3A, the Metro League had one of its teams ousted early after a scuffle and another the victim of an onside kick despite trailing by multiple touchdowns with only minutes remaining.

Monroe 48, Auburn Riverside 28
Monroe’s touchdown machine, JJ Jerome, produced three more while running for 216 yards as Monroe broke open a tight game to set up a first round meeting with Sumner.
Sumner 47, Glacier Peak 14
Glacier Peak was within one possession for much of the first half, but Tre Weed led the charge as Sumner bounced back from its near upset last week to make its first appearance in the 4A state playoffs since 1994.
Woodinville 45, Puyallup 20
The KingCo 4A league champions advanced to face the winner of Saturday’s Kennedy Catholic/Mariner game.
Graham-Kapowsin 55, Kentlake 28
Graham-Kapowsin was so in form on Friday night that Foster Sarrell, the nation’s top offensive tackle recruit, made his mark on defense with an interception. Micah Smith also ran for 250 yards and two touchdowns as Graham-Kapowsin earned a date with No. 1 Camas in the first round of the playoffs.
Skyline 41, Mount Rainier 7
Any thought of an upset was squashed shortly after kickoff.
Eastlake 49, Kentwood 0
Eastlake will have a chance to avenge a 17-14 loss to Skyline in September in the first round of the playoffs thanks to its complete domination of the Conks at French Field.
Skyview 38, Olympia 27
A lost fumble late in the fourth quarter sealed Olympia’s fate.
Bothell 23, Auburn Mountainview 14
Bothell reeled off 23 unanswered points, starting with a Jacob Sirmon 4th-and-3 touchdown pass in the second quarter, to earn a first round meeting with Richland.

3A

Squalicum 35, Rainier Beach 7
Rainier Beach’s state qualifying round playoff football game against Squalicum ended in a loss short of the end of regulation after a scuffle broke out with 4:15 left on the clock. Squalicum led 35-7.

Lakes 21, Edmonds-Woodway 14
Lakes scored the only touchdown of the second half to get back to state, where it made the semifinals last season.
Lynnwood 63, Garfield 45
Lynnwood recovered an onside kick in the fourth quarter … while already up multiple touchdowns and recovered from a 17-0 deficit in the first quarter to earn a state berth and a matchup with Lincoln.
Lincoln 54, West Seattle 24

2A
Liberty 27, Blaine 24
Liberty escaped their foes from on the border to earn a berth to state thanks to a well executed fake punt.
Washington 37, Fife 0
Fife overcame a 23-0 deficit to tie the game at 30 in the fourth quarter before Washington recovered to earn a trip to play Tumwater at state.

4A West Central District Tournament
Kentwood, on its home floor, led a quartet of teams qualifying for the 4A state tournament. Bellarmine Prep, Puyallup and Auburn Riverside also qualified for state by winning their first two games at the West Central District Tournament.

The four will compete for tournament championship and seeding on Saturday.

The other side of the bracket has four more bids up for grabs, with the qualifiers then playing for seeds No. 5-8 from district 3/4.

2A West Central District Tournament
North Kitsap, Fife, Orting and White River clinched spots in the 2A state tournament Friday at Franklin Pierce High School. Two more bids are up for grabs in the consolation bracket.
