Mozilla has pushed a new minor update to its powerful, free, open-source, and cross-platform e-mail client and news aggregator software, Thunderbird, versioned 45.5.0.

Mozilla Thunderbird 45.5.0 was first offered to stable channel on November 18, 2016, one month and a half after the release of the previous security update, namely Thunderbird 45.4.0, which many of you use on your personal computers for all of your e-mail needs, but also for RSS and chat activities.

While not a major release, it looks like Mozilla Thunderbird 45.5.0 supports changes to the character limit in Twitter, and addresses an issue where the incorrect quoting level indication was shown when attempting to reply to a message with selected text containing the quote.

Email invitations non-ASCII chars are now displayed correctly

Furthermore, Mozilla Thunderbird 45.5.0 now correctly displays e-mail invitations that contain non-ASCII characters in their descriptions, and it appears that the RSS aggregator experience has been improved a little to properly display the mail address in the header pane for certain feeds.

Last but not least, Thunderbird will no longer hang on sort descending operations when attempting to sort e-mails on the Date field while at the same time applying a quick filter, and the value of the cursor-key selected pop-up is now confirmed with address auto-complete using Enter or Tab.

Mozilla Thunderbird 45.5.0 is a recommended update for everyone using Mozilla Thunderbird 45.4.0 or a previous release, and you can now download the binary and source packages for GNU/Linux, macOS, and Microsoft Windows operating systems from our website.

In the meantime, it looks like Mozilla is working hard on the next major Thunderbird release, versioned 50.0, which is currently in Beta stages of development. You can get an early taste of Mozilla Thunderbird 50.0 by downloading the latest Beta builds from the same download sections listed above.
