The Extra Life team, which is comprised of Assiniboine Community College’s Network Administration Technology students, is raising money for the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba.
Extra Life began in 2008 as a way of honouring Victoria Enmon. Members sent in video games and bought gifts to keep her spirits up despite numerous hospital stays and three bouts with a deadly disease. Tragically, Victoria lost her battle to cancer in January 2008 at the age of 15.
In 2015, the ACC team raised $3,150 while Extra Lifers raised a record high of over $8.3 million for children globally.
The Extra Life fundraising campaign is much like a person fundraising for CIBC’s Run for the Cure. Instead of pledging to run in order to bring awareness and donations to the cause, Extra Life team members instead pledge to play games for 24 hours. Team members have the opportunity to play video, card and board games.
This year’s event will be held on Nov. 5.
