Young workman sprints across a builder's yard to 'jump start' a chainsaw after being pranked by new colleagues (he’ll be buying striped paint next)

  • Adam Tomkin thought that running down yard with the tool would fix it
  • Cornish builders are heard laughing when he falls for the hilarious prank

Prankster builders lured their co-worker into running with a chainsaw for 25 metres in a bid to 'jump start' it.

Simon Jones, 37, and Damien George, 39, from Cornwall, convinced their 22-year-old colleague Adam Tomkin that bump starting a Stihl saw like a car would fix it.

The pair were at work like usual last week when they decided to unleash what they claim is a 'classic builder gag', which involves pushing the blade along until it begins spinning on its own.

Damien said: 'I didn't think anybody would be dopey enough to do it. I was just doing a job when I thought about doing it.

'It was really funny but I don't think I could find somebody as gullible to do it again.'

Adam said: 'It was embarrassing. I'm always completely shocked. Everyone tricks everyone around here but I'm usually the one that gets it.

'I just laugh it off. It happens all the time but it makes the workplace entertaining.'

Damien had explained to Adam that the pull chord on the Stihl saw was broken and that he needed to put the blade down on the road and jump start it manually like a car.

At first, Adam doubted the instructions on how to 'fix' the chainsaw so turned to Simon for reassurance and trusted him to tell the truth, which proved an error.

While there are numerous tricks Damien and Simon like to play on new starters at the building supply firm, Adam has been there for over a year and is still targeted with pranks the most.

Simon said: 'It's a classic builder's gag and a classic trick to play on the new guys here. We haven't done it before but we've heard of it and we couldn't wait to give it a try.

'Adam has had all the classic pranks pulled on him. He's quite gullible and naive. It just went above his head. The prank worked.

'It was spontaneous to do it on that day. It was a quiet work day as we only had one job so we thought it would be a good day for it.'
