GEORGE TOWN: Two form four students from SMK St George’s and SMK Permatang Rawa will represent Penang in the Malaysian Science and Mathematics Olympiad next year.

Nur Irdina Shaik Adam and Muhammad Hanan Sazhali respectively scored top marks for the Penang selection rounds today to make the cut beating out 308 participants from 78 secondary schools.

The 16-year-old lass said she did not expect to win as the questions were tough but was happy to represent the state.

“I am happy to win this for my school and for Penang,” she said while Muhammad Hanan hopes to perform well in the national competition in February 2017.

Other than a place in the finals, both also picked up certificates and RM500 each.

In closing the Penang rounds, Pulau Betong assemblymen Muhammad Farid Saad said the competition was a good platform for students to sharpen their science and maths skills.

He urged students to work hard in bettering their skills in science and maths as the knowledge will give them the advantage in life after school.
