Honeybees defend their hive from predatory spider

Spider vs. Bees
From YouTube.

Sometimes everyone needs a firm reminder that nature is something that really shouldn’t be messed with.

So here’s some creepy crawly footage from Youtube user Zaur Man showing a fishing spider attempting to score an easy meal from one of his many bee hives. This large arachnid actually differs from typical spiders due to its habit of stalking and catching its prey, rather than trapping it by spinning a web.

But that also means this particular spider has to be very careful if it’s going to try and catch a honeybee. It certainly does have the upper hand in a one-on-one fight, but if the spider isn’t careful it runs the risk of angering the entire hive.

And it looks like that’s exactly what happens after the spider makes one too many sudden movements and is swiftly attacked by a swarm of angry honey bees.

The hive makes quick work of the intruder as the fishing spider is quickly overwhelmed by venomous stings in a matter of seconds. Even after paralyzing their enemy the bees continue attacking until the eight-legged threat is completely neutralized.
