Welcome to Independent Publishing Now!, IBPA's monthly e-newsletter featuring the hottest news and information from IBPA and its members.

It's that time of the year again! Terry Nathan, IBPA Chief Operations Officer, and Mimi Le, IBPA Project Manager, are currently at the Frankfurt Book Fair supporting our members' titles. The Frankfurt Book Fair is the largest global marketplace for books, media, rights, and licenses worldwide. This year will mark IBPA's 31st year in attendance and each year just keeps getting better!

Many of our members have achieved success through IBPA’s support of their participation at the Fair and can now boast Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Korean, German, Japanese, Dutch, Italian, and French versions of their titles. Stay tuned for future updates and success stories. You can learn more about this opportunity and begin preparing for next year here!

What started as an online magazine in 2009 has become Queens’ only independent book publishing company. IBPA member Shaun Randol is the editor-in-chief, publicist, marketer, and publisher at the Mantle, a book publishing company that aims to provide “a platform for young and emerging, maybe overlooked voices.” Since 2014, the Mantle has published six books by emerging African writers. Randol says that his intention is to “publish writers who don’t have access to markets like the U.S. to get their names out and get the publicity their writing deserves.” You can learn more about Shaun's mission in this recent Queens Courier article.

IBPA member Anne Sarkisian's award-winning book,Toxic Staple: How Gluten May Be Wrecking Your Health and What You Can Do About It!, was recently featured in a TEDx Talk Tauranga by NZ expert Dr. Rodney Ford. Anne's life transforming book has also been named the recipient of four awards presented by the Independent Publishers of New England (IPNE): Book of the Year, Informational Non-Fiction, Cover Design, and Interior Design. It was a finalist in the category of Promotion. Congrats, Anne!

Dr. Janet Smith Warfield has been recognized by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) as their Top Professional in Consciousness Education for 2016-2017. She will be one of two keynote speakers at their Awards Banquet in New York City on December 10th. You can watch the video IAOTP prepared about her here and also check out a recent webinar of her's here.

Eric DelaBarre's children's book Saltwater Taffy recently won Gold in the Reader's Favorite Book Award – congratulations! Other awards for his book include Gold in the Gelett Burgess Children’s Book Awards and the Nautilus Awards and was a finalist in the Benjamin Franklin Book Awards. It has also been featured on ABC News and in the Scholastic magazine! Besides being an author, Eric specializes in delivering inspiring keynotes on the importance of reading to schools and district-wide assemblies. Watch as he motivates schools full of kids in this video compilation!

Award-winning author Melanie Weiss has been receiving a lot of praise for her book In A Pickle Over PANDAS. Her title has earned two awards so far this year: a Silver at the 2016 Living Now Book Awards and a Bronze at the 2016 eLit Electronic Book Awards for Children's Nonfiction. Her title was also a finalist at the 2016 Next Generation Indie Book Awards for Health/Medicine/Nutrition and a finalist at the 2016 10th Annual National Indie Excellence Awards. The book is about a young boy’s journey with a harrowing illness called PANDAS, an acronym for Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder Associated with Streptococcus.
