New London — Some lesser-known city eating establishments came up as the big winners during the Fall Food Stroll last week, according to a list sent out Tuesday by New London Main Street, the event organizer.

Top of the list was Montauk House at 111 Montauk Ave., which served its Cape Verdean Stew at Liberty Bank during the food stroll. About 700 people attended the stroll last Wednesday.

"My mother is Cape Verdean, and this recipe was inspired by her,"  said Montauk House owner Robert Ramsey in a statement.

Other winners of the best overall food were the private Thames Club at 290 State St. and The Bistro on Bank at 165 Bank St. Thames Club's executive chef Michael Streeter served Mediterranean lamb samosas for its second-place finish, while owner and chef Dave Bureau at The Bistro took home third place for his Beef Baloggi Korean Noodles.

"The food stroll is a great opportunity for people in and around New London to get out and stroll through downtown," said Annah Perch, executive director of New London Main Street.

Other winning enterprises were: Marquee Gallery a Center for the Arts at 74 State St., best dessert for a truffle by SF Caterings, and Octane Cafe at 9 Tilley St., fan favorite for a Polynesian pork slider created by executive chef Eric Delano.

Judges for the food stroll included Daniel Giusti, director of the city's Chef in Schools program whose restaurant Noma was named best restaurant in the world three times by Restaurant Magazine.
