10 Pro Beauty Secrets That Will Shock You

10 Pro Beauty Secrets That Will Shock You

With the rise in popularity of sites like Instagram and Youtube, you can find makeup tips virtually anytime right at the touch of your fingertips. But what about the lesser known tricks used by makeup professionals? Below we have the scoop straight from the pros on their favorite beauty hacks!

1. Apply Your Face Powder Before Foundation

I know what you’re thinking. We have all been taught that creams and liquids shouldn’t be applied over powders but using a light dusting of powder under your foundation actually has several benefits. It locks in your moisturizer and primer, lessens the appearance of enlarged pores, and you’ll find that you’ll need to use less foundation than usual, especially if you use a tinted powder. For my dry skinned ladies, you might not even have to set your foundation with extra powder.

2. Apply a Color Corrector to Dark Circles

Dealing with discolored under eye circles? Many of us do. Use a peachy toned color corrector under your concealer to instantly even out the area under your eyes. Applying a concealer straight to your under eye circles can sometimes make that area look ashy as the cooler tones can still show through. By applying a salmon or peach toned concealer first, you are canceling out those purple undertones and leaving a more even base for your concealer. Bobbi Brown makes a great one, but NYX Cosmetics also has a good one if you’re on a budget!

3. Set Makeup with a Damp Beauty Sponge

Use a damp beauty sponge to apply your loose powder and to set your makeup and avoid cakiness. Using a beauty sponge as opposed to a brush allows you to gently push the powder onto your skin instead of sweeping it around. By using this method, you can ensure you are setting your foundation and concealer to give you long lasting and even coverage.

4. Make Your Products Multi-task!

You can use matte brown shadows to bronze or contour, shimmery champagne shadows to highlight the face, foundation to clean up your lip line after applying lipstick, and concealer to highlight your brows. Even lipstick can be used as cream blush in a pinch. Concealer applied to the eyelids can help cover discoloration and provide an even base for eyeshadow application, just make sure to set it with a powder or eyeshadow that matches your lids.

5. Tame Dry Patches with Oil

Dealing with dry patches? Apply a face oil on a damp beauty sponge over dry areas to smooth and lessen the appearance of dry skin. Apply foundation over the top as normal. If you don’t already know, Avocado oil makes a great moisturizer for dry patches on the face and body.

You can also mix in a few drops of oil into your foundation to give your face a more luminous finish. Jojoba, avocado, and almond oil are three budget friendly options.

6. Apply Your False Lashes in Sections

Struggling to put on a full strip of lashes? Don’t feel bad, many of us do. The trick to applying is to cut the lash strip in half or even quarters and apply each section separately. It is much easier to apply in 2 or 3 pieces at a time. Alternatively, you could use just a half strip of lashes on the outer half of your eye to give you some daytime appropriate drama and the appearance of an elongated eye.

7. Heat up Your Lash Curler

Lashes having a hard time holding a curl? Use your blow dryer to heat up the pad of your lash curler. This is probably one of our favorite things to do and the results are pretty amazing. Blast the pad of your lash curler with medium to high heat for 10 seconds, wait a few seconds until the curler cools off some (don’t want to burn yourself!) , and crimp your lashes as normal. The heat from the curler will help keep your lashes look lifted and curled all day, especially if paired with a waterproof mascara.

Pro Tip: Tweezerman’s SPA Super Curl Lash Curler is the best for achieving without bending your lashes.

8. Use Eyeshadow to Disguise a Thin Hair Line

Apply a matte eyeshadow that matches your hair to your hairline to cover up any thin patches and make the hairline appear thicker. Not all of us are blessed with a head full of thick hair so the rest of us can fake it till we make it! If you happen to have a lot of eyeshadows in your arsenal, you most likely have a color similar enough that would work well for this purpose.

9. Create Your DIY Perfect Tinted Moisturizer

Looking for lighter coverage but don’t have a tinted moisturizer or BB Cream? Create your own by mixing together your moisturizer and a small amount of foundation! This can also work to turn a matte finish foundation into a more natural, skin-like finish. Not only can this save you some money since you don’t have to buy a separate tinted moisturizer, but it’s also a great method for travel so you don’t have to lug around more products.

10. Tighten the Face with Egg Whites

This is great to do before applying makeup if you’re going out or just relaxing around the house. Take one egg, separate it, yoke from egg white and whisk it until it’s frothy. Next, apply the egg white all over your face with a foundation brush and leave it on for at least 20 minutes. Finish by washing it off with lukewarm water and immediately applying your makeup. The egg white acts as a tightener for the skin and makes wrinkles less noticeable giving you a temporary facelift.
