Top banter? Puns a plenty? Seriously cool specs? The rumoured new presenter of The Great British Bake Off, arguably has an eerie similarity to Sue Perkins. Alas, IT's not.

In fact, the next presenter in line to present the series when it moves to Channel 4, is a rather random choice indeed.

The IT Crowd's Richard Ayoade, to be precise.

Since announcing that they will NOT be following The Great British Bake Off away from the BBC (which we're still crying about, by the way), the rumour mill about who will be replacing Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc as the series hosts has gone into overdrive – with Davina McCall, Nadiya Hussain and Alan Carr all exempting themselves from the running.

But now it seems Channel 4 has opted to stick with a familiar face, in the form of Ayoade, The Sun reports.

Ayoade makes regular appearances on the terrestrial channel, hosting popular documentary series Travel Man and appearing as a regular panelist on the Big Fat Quiz of the Year.

Although if he were to take on the gig, he would have to commit to a couple of months staying on British soil.

Channel 4 has already faced quite a bit of backlash, which their chief boss Jay Hunt has been quick to defend, so it will be interesting to see how GBBO fans react to this latest rumour.

As for us? We're more interested in who could potentially be joining Ayoade and becoming the Mel to his Sue.

Perhaps his Travel Man co-star Rob Delaney or The IT Crowd's Chris O'Dowd?

All we know is that they'd have to be a pretty big deal to replace Mel and Sue in our hearts.

The Great British Bake Off returns Wednesday (October 19) on BBC One.
