Beach renourishment project continues after storm
Another sign of progress on Hilton Head Island after Hurricane Matthew is the beach renourishment project starting back up. Crews had to remove supplies from the beach and evacuate themselves prior to the storm. Wednesday, those supplies, including all the shore pipes, will be brought back to the beach and the project will start again. The town contractor plans to start Wednesday on South Forrest Beach. Workers will need to replace the sand washed away from the storm, but they say it will not be completely starting over. They say much of the sand pumped onto the beach stayed in place during the hurricane. In the coming days, work will continue on North Forrest Beach and Shipyard.
