HBO has renewed its pot comedy “High Maintenance” for a second season.

The show centers on a marijuana deliveryman called The Guy (Ben Sinclair) who travels around New York City and meets with an array of clients. Created by Katja Blichfeld and Sinclair, “High Maintenance” started as a web series with no real serialized form and no constraints regarding length of episode. The HBO version stays true to the original premise, but within 30-minute episodes.

In her review for Variety, TV critic Sonia Saraiya wrote, “To Sinclair and Blichfeld’s credit, the HBO series presents its new season as one that can be appreciated by both first-time viewers and long-time fans. It builds on what’s happened before, but there are few inside jokes and veiled references — just the continued dedication to finding intimacy with these characters.”

“The response to the new episodes exceeded all of our expectations,” said Casey Bloys, president of HBO programming. “Ben and Katja are brilliant, unconventional storytellers and we’re excited to see what they dream up for us in our second season.”

“High Maintenance” is produced by Janky Clown Productions and executive produced by Blichfeld, Sinclair and Russell Gregory. Blichfeld and Sinclair write and direct the series, and the latter serves as editor.
