On Wednesday, Mark Zuckerberg began what he claimed will become a regular effort to share pictures of Facebook's most advanced technologies from around the globe.

The first set of pictures that he's sharing is from the Luleå data center in Sweden. Because of the data center's naturally frigid location, the immense amount of heat generated by the center's servers can be cooled just by a set of hydroelectric fans powered by a nearby river.

Fans that draw in cool external air to reduce temperatures in the data center.  Facebook

The halls are often empty because of the center's high efficiency, only needing 1 technician per 25,000 servers.  Facebook
