Brand new Porsche 911 sells for £436k at auction – three times what its owner paid in July

Porsche is making only 991 of the 201mph supercars, and one canny owner decided to cash in after buying it for £140k

A CANNY supercar owner has flogged his brand-new Porsche for three-times the price he paid for it in July.

A bidder bought the rare 911 R model for a staggering £436,404 - just three months after Porsche sold it to the original owner for £140,000.

The German manufacturer is limiting production of the 201 mph motor - described by experts as one of the greatest ever Porsches - to just 991 cars.

They were all immediately snapped up by the company's favourite customers and are not on sale to the general public.

As a result they are highly sought-after by wealthy collectors and enthusiasts who are desperate to own one.

One of the lucky owners decided to cash in on his fast-appreciating asset by "flipping" it and entering it into Bonhams' car auction held in Zoute, Belgium, over the weekend.

Philip Kantor, head of motor cars at Bonhams, said: "It is the first sold publicly. Porsche haven't yet reached half the production of the 991 they plan to build yet.

"There was strong interest worldwide, with 11 phone lines as well as people in the room and online.

"There were 30 to 35 people looking at it.

"The market decided the price and we're very pleased with the result."

Mr Kantor said that apart from the one millionth Land Rover, which it sold in a charity auction for £400,000 last year, he cannot remember selling another new car at such a premium.

The 911 R was unveiled in March at this year's Geneva Motor Show, with Porsche describing is as a road-legal racing car.

It is fitted with a 4-litre engine developing 500bhp - sending it fom 0-62mph in 3.7 seconds and up to a top speed of 201mph.
